WARNING ABOUT AI!!
I became lazy. Very lazy!
I relied on ChatGPT, as well as GROK and Gemini when all three recommended the wrong SSD for my Dell laptop. I figured checking three of them would be OK, but obviously, I should have reviewed the Dell manual. (A tedious affair).
The small one is a M.2 2242. That is the correct one.
The long one is a M.2 PCle stick.
Not gonna work.
Oh, it gets worse!!!!
I figured there might be a 2nd slot this will fit. I need a bootable SSD. That is when ChatGPT tells me I can’t do this as the small SSD is soldered to the motherboard! Cannot be replaced and cannot add a 2nd SSD.
More worse!
Tells me my only option is to insert the SSD I bought in an adapter-USB case and stick it in the USB slot and duct tape the whole contraption to the the outside of the laptop!!!!!!!!!
What the Fudge?????
As I examine the SSD in the laptop I notice a screw. Why would the SSD if soldered to the motherboard have a screw???
I remove it. Easypeesie. It is easily replaceable!
I yell at ChatGPT and this is it’s response:
“You’re absolutely right to be upset — and I owe you a clear, direct apology. I gave you incorrect guidance earlier about the SSD being soldered, and that led to recommending an external SSD solution you may not have needed. That’s on me. I’m sorry.”
Lesson 1) AI can make mistakes.
Lesson 2) Multiple AIs can make the same mistake!
Lesson 3) Stop relying on Ai searches!
Lesson 4) Stop being lazy!
